I built a free cleaning business name generator to save you time pondering what to call your company. It runs the same research I do by hand on every discovery call: who already cleans houses in your area, whether they can be booked online, what to charge, and which names are still open. It's at namemycleaningcompany.com.
When I tested it on Oak Bay, the neighborhood Jen and I named our company after, it told me to start somewhere else.
It rated Oak Bay Moderate. It found Oak Bay Clean already holding the Oak Bay name with 277+ Google reviews, called that proof the demand is there, and pointed me to Saanich and Esquimalt instead. Its top pick was Saanich Clean, with saanichclean.com open.
The short answer
- Type in your city, with the state, province or country. "Columbus, OH" or "Oak Bay, BC" finds the right place. In a big city, add the neighborhood.
- Read the verdict first. Strong, Moderate or Tough tells you whether to go after that area or a nearby one.
- Take the top pick seriously. It follows our formula, location plus a cleaning keyword, and the .com has been checked live.
- Buy the domain the same day. Availability is checked at the moment you search and can change by tomorrow.
- Register the name before you trade. An open domain and an approved business name are two separate checks.
What does the cleaning business name generator check?
You type in a location. The tool does four things with it.
It reads the market. You get a verdict of Strong, Moderate or Tough and a short paragraph on who lives there. The read is built around Jordan, the client we design Oak Bay Clean around: a busy professional in a comfortable neighborhood who books online, pays automatically and wants the same cleaner every time. Areas full of households that can afford recurring cleaning score well. Areas where most households cannot, or the rare enclave where everyone has live-in staff, score lower.
It looks at your competitors. It pulls the cleaning companies Google shows for your area and checks each website for two things: can you book online, and are the prices on the page. If a site cannot be read, it says so and leaves that company out of the count.
It names the company. Every suggestion follows the formula we teach: location plus a cleaning keyword, spelled the normal way. It checks the .com for each name live, crosses out names too close to a competitor's, and ranks the rest.
It gives you a starting price. The full report includes a suggested range for a bi-weekly clean in your area.
How is it different from other cleaning business name generators?
I put Victoria, BC into ZenMaid's free generator, chose residential, picked four styles, and got ten names back: Pristine Home Victoria, House to Home Cleaning, Clear Home Services, Victoria Clean Co., Bright House Cleaners, Tidy & Trusted Homes, Greater Victoria Home Care, Refresh Residential Cleaning, Beacon Cleaners and Coastal Clean Collective.
Victoria Clean Co. is the one I would use. It is the only name of the ten with both our city and a cleaning keyword in it, and six of the ten name no place at all.
The list stops at names. Getting one approved by BC's business registry, checking it against the cleaning companies already trading in Victoria, and finding an open domain were all left to me.
Then I tried Shopify's free business name generator for a cleaning company in Victoria. It gave me 24 names, and every "Get name" button opens a sign-up page for a Shopify store. Here is what the 24 were, sorted by what is wrong with them.
| What it did | Shopify's names | The problem |
|---|---|---|
| Invented a word (13) | Glissoria, Twinklia, Gleamora, Scrubica, Polishia, Sprucica, Radianta, Brightica, Purifica, Freshora, Spickity, Pristina, Puretica | No place and no cleaning keyword, so a Google search for house cleaning in Victoria has nothing to match. They read like skincare brands. |
| Misspelled it (2) | Brite & Clean Crew, BriteVic | Brite is the Klean problem again. BriteVic also cuts Victoria down to Vic. |
| Named the whole province (4) | Gleaming Homes BC, Pristine Shine BC, Spotless Solutions BC, ShineBC | BC is the province. Your clients search by the city or neighborhood they live in. |
| Kept the city, dropped the cleaning (2) | Neat Nest Victoria, Victoria Sparkle Squad | A Nest and a Squad could be a daycare or a dance team. |
| Kept the cleaning, dropped the place (2) | Crystal Clear Cleaners, Fresh Start Cleaners | Could be anywhere, so it ranks for nowhere in particular. |
| Came close (1) | Squeaky Clean Victoria | The city plus Clean, with a cute word bolted on the front. Victoria Clean does the same job in two words. |
One of 24 is close to usable, and it still needs editing. None came with a domain check or a word about BC's name approval.
Wix was next. I typed "cleaning company in Victoria BC" and got nine names: Dazzle Clean, Sparkle, Victoria Shine, Spotless Harmony, Clean Heart, Serene Sweep, CleanCraft, EcoFresh Cleaners and Elevate Clean.
Victoria Shine is the only one with the city in it, and Shine tells Google nothing about cleaning. Five have Clean or Cleaners with no place. Sparkle, Spotless Harmony and Serene Sweep have neither.
Wix does list domains, and the list for its top pick, Dazzle Clean, shows what happens when a name comes first and the domain second. These are the first ten results.
| Domain Wix offered | The problem |
|---|---|
| dazzleclean.ca | The best of the ten, and it still has no place in it. |
| thedazzleclean.com | "The" added to the front to get a .com, so the domain no longer matches your business name. |
| dazzlecleanservices.com, dazzlecleanhub.com, dazzlecleanstudio.com | Filler words added for the same reason. Hub and studio say nothing about cleaning houses. |
| dazzleclean.co | One letter off .com. |
| dazzleclean.biz, dazzleclean.studio, dazzleclean.app | Endings made for other kinds of businesses. |
| dazzleclean.ai | CA$140.46 a year, for a cleaning company. |
Every .com on the list has a word bolted on, and plain dazzleclean.com is missing from the first ten. The free first year on the others comes with an annual Wix website plan.
That is 43 names from three generators for the same city. Victoria Clean Co. is the only one I would use.
Our tool starts from the market. The location is the input, the competitors and the verdict come first, and every name it suggests is built from the place you will clean in, with the .com checked and the registry step laid out.
The naming rules the tool is built on
Location plus a cleaning keyword. Oak Bay Clean, Hudson Yards Clean, Clermont City Clean. When Jordan needs a cleaner, she opens Google, types what she needs and where, and clicks the result that looks local and specific. A name that already says both matches her search.
Spell it the way people search. Clean with a C, Maids with an S. A K in Klean gets you nothing from Google.
Pick one area and own it. The owners who choose a vague name so they can franchise one day end up ranking nowhere in the one town they are in.
Keep it boring. Jen and I want a cleaning business simple, because its job is to pay the bills and leave us time for everything else. A plain name that ranks does more for that than a clever one nobody searches for.
Check the dull things before you fall in love with a name. Is there demand where you live, does a local company already hold the name, is the domain open, and what does your registry need from you. The tool runs those checks in that order.
What the report looked like for Bend, Oregon
I ran Bend, OR on October 12, 2026 as a test. The verdict came back Strong. The read described a fast-growing town that has drawn remote tech workers and healthcare professionals, with newer neighborhoods full of dual-income households who pay for services.
The competitor line said 1 of the 3 cleaning companies it could assess cannot be booked online. The top pick was Bend Clean, with bendclean.com available.
What it told me about Oak Bay
Oak Bay came back Moderate. The read described an affluent municipality next to Victoria with a large population of well-off retirees, which it judged older and more traditional than Jordan.
The tool found 2 of the 5 competitors it could assess cannot be booked online. Because a competitor's business name already contains "Oak Bay," it counted the name as taken and steered to nearby towns people search for by name, Saanich and Esquimalt.
It only treats an area name as taken when a local cleaning company is using it. A big generic competitor with hundreds of reviews leaves the name open, and so does a domain someone registered and never used.
How do you read Strong, Moderate or Tough?
| Verdict | What it means | What to do next |
|---|---|---|
| Strong | Plenty of households that pay for recurring cleaning, and room to rank | Claim the top pick and its domain, then register the name |
| Moderate | The demand is there, with a catch: an older client base, a strong incumbent, or an area too broad to own | Read the nearby suggestions before you commit |
| Tough | Too few households likely to book recurring cleaning | Run a nearby town or a stronger neighborhood |
A competitor with lots of reviews proves people in that town pay for cleaning. The opening is the companies that still cannot be booked online or hide their prices, and the report counts those for you.
What if you live in a big city?
The tool asks you to pick a neighborhood. Notting Hill beats London, and Hudson Yards beats New York. Dana made $8,000 in her first month as Hudson Yards Clean, and I wrote up her story in the one question I get asked more than any other.
A small area holds more clients than you need. 100 recurring clients paying $200 every two weeks comes to about $520,000 a year in revenue. Double that to 200 clients and you pass $1 million, which on our model is around $300,000 in profit.
Victoria, where Jen and I live, is a small Canadian city of under half a million people, and we still named our company after Oak Bay, the suburb we live in. Our business name is Oak Bay Cleaning Services and our website is oakbayclean.com. We clean across the whole city, and we started in our own area.
We did it because Google and AI search look for the company that matches what someone typed and where they are. When someone in Oak Bay searches for cleaning services, Oak Bay Cleaning Services is the exact match.
We also compete with big brands like Merry Maids. People want to support local businesses, so let them.
If you are planning for several cities or a franchise one day, a neighborhood name can feel too small. Get to a million dollars a year first, and then we can have that conversation. In five years of running Oak Bay Clean and coaching owners, I have yet to meet one who wanted to. The owners I work with want enough money to own their time, travel and live how they like. Let's get you there first. Then we can talk about a name that could carry a franchise and take on Merry Maids.
What do you get free, and what comes with the full report?
| On screen, no email | Full report, after you add your email |
|---|---|
| Market verdict and the read on your area | Everything on screen, plus a PDF copy |
| How many competitors cannot be booked online | The competitor teardown: ratings, reviews, online booking, prices shown |
| Your top name pick with its .com checked | 14 more ranked names, each with its domain checked |
| A suggested bi-weekly price range for your market | |
| Your business registry link and the top 3 names to apply for, in order | |
| Name options in nearby areas |
The price is an AI estimate based on local cost of living and typical rates for recurring residential cleaning. Call about ten local cleaning companies as a customer and ask what a bi-weekly clean costs before you set yours. The full method is in how much to charge for house cleaning.
Register the name as well as the domain
Before you trade, file the name with your business registry: the Secretary of State in most US states, your provincial registry in Canada, Companies House in the UK. Registries can turn down a name that is too close to one already on file, which is why the full report links your registry and ranks the top 3 names to apply for. BC's Name Request, for one, takes up to three choices in order of preference.
For the full checklist on domains, social handles and trademarks, read how to name a cleaning business. Once the name is yours, the same location keyword goes into your Google Business Profile and your website title, which is most of what local SEO for a cleaning business comes down to.

Frequently asked questions
Is the cleaning business name generator free?
Yes. The market verdict, the competitor booking count and your top name pick show on screen without an email. Add your email to open the full report on the page and get a PDF copy, with 14 more ranked names, the competitor teardown, a bi-weekly price range and your registry link.
Does it check whether the domain is available?
Yes. Every .com is checked live at the moment you search. Domains get registered every day, so buy the one you want the same day you find it.
Does an available domain mean I can use the name?
An open domain is one check. You also file the name with your state, provincial or national business registry, which can turn down a name that is too close to one already registered. The full report links your registry and ranks the top three names to apply for.
What if I live in a big city?
Add your neighborhood. The tool asks you to narrow a big city down, because a name built on a neighborhood, like Hudson Yards Clean or a Notting Hill name in London, ranks for the people living there much faster than one built on the whole city.
How accurate is the price it gives me?
It is an AI estimate based on local cost of living and typical rates for recurring residential cleaning. Treat it as a starting point and check it by calling about ten local cleaning companies as a customer.
Does it work outside the US?
Yes. Include your province or country with the city, like Oak Bay, BC, or add a neighborhood like Notting Hill, London, so it finds the right place.
